The Natural Reserve System currently has three interns in the Urban Studies and Planning department. In the past the NRS has also had interns from the Environmental Systems department.
Katie Heinemann and Jesus Vasquez are working on a project focusing on understanding and mitigating anthropogenic effects on coastal habitats. Katie is working to strengthen the educational and outreach roles of the upland portion of the Scripps Coastal Reserve (or "Cliffs"). Jesus is working on collecting data on the visitor use of the shoreline part of the reserve (especially "Dike Rock") and in compiling data on rocky intertidal focal taxa collected by the MARINe program.
Natalie Stiffler is working on enhancing public involvement in the protection of the Light-footed clapper rail at the Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve.
