Get Involved

We value and depend on friends, neighbors, educators, students, scientists, professionals, and volunteers to help us with everything from public outreach to hands-on projects. Please let us know if you and/or your group would like to participate on a one-time or repeated basis. Each reserve has different opportunities for individual, group, or class involvement.

Please check out the one in which you are most interested, or all of them, then contact us at nrs@ucsd.edu or (858) 534-2077. Hope to see you at one of our reserves soon!

Kendall-Frost

If you are in the neighborhood, please drop by on the first Saturday of the month from 9 – 11:30 a.m. for our monthly gathering/work party. Students can fulfill required community service credits. Classes and extracurricular groups are welcome; please let us know ahead of time that you are planning to come.

Be sure to get up-to-date notices by checking our Facebook Page, the reserve calendar, or by joining Friends of Mission Bay Marshes.

Exciting opportunities for future protection and enhancement of the Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve can be found in the Mission Bay Wetlands Enhancement Initiative, developed in conjunction with the Audubon Society and public agencies.

Dawson

We need volunteer assistance at the Dawson Reserve for particular projects, such as refurbishing the headquarters trailer, painting, light construction, etc. Please contact us if you are interested in being added to the list for these intermittent events.

We also have research projects that make use of “citizen scientists” to help us collect data. Please let us know if you would like to know more about current projects suitable for volunteers or interns. Students may be able to fulfill required community service credits.

We have had a lot of help from Eagle Scouts and local conservation organizations, particularly Preserve Calavera and the Audubon Society. Please contact them or contact us directly (nrs@ucsd.edu) if you would like to work with a group.

Exciting possibilities for future protection and enhancement of the Dawson Reserve can be found described in the Agua Hedionda Watershed Management Plan (PDF).
